31 mpg in a 1979 300SD! I don't know if this is typical of these cars, but ive been getting between 27 and 31 mpg in my well-worn 300sd. The last fuel-up yielded 31.77 mpg. It has seemed to go up with the ambient temperature. I think you can get a brand new 3.3 for under $4000. I am in the middle of a Mercedes 5cyl turbo diesel swap. Not as much power but for me it was priced right at $100.
